The Milat Foundation the Darrell Milat Scholarship announces a number of scholarship positions for the academic year 2019/2020 in the following subjects/focus areas:
1. Law: Support the training of students pursuing a law degree with a strong interest in Justice, Child Rights, and Child Protection with a view to working for and upholding justice in the courtrooms and the entire legal department especially but not limited to cases where children are victims.
2. Nursing: Support the training of nursing students passionate about child health and wellbeing and who otherwise will not be able to complete their studies without external financial assistance.
Scholarships are awarded based on (i) academic performance or (ii) financial need or (iii) a combination of academic performance and financial need. In all three categories, applicants are expected to show especially how deep they share in and connect with the mission and vision of the Milat Foundation assessed in their application.
Objective of the Scholarship:
LAW: Corruption has killed more children in Cameroon compared to any other imaginable disease. We aim to fight corruption in a highly corrupt justice system/legal department. As adults, we have a moral and legal obligation to stand up and speak out for children who are being deprived of some or all of their rights to childhood and the benefits that naturally comes with it.
These children cannot speak for themselves. Especially when child rights or welfare issues are brought before authorities such as the welfare, the legal department, or the court, it is crucial for them to understand that all judgments relating to child issues should be based on the universally accepted norm of the “Child’s Best Interest” and not clouded by corruption and other social ills.

The Milat Foundation Fellowship named after his son as the Darrell Milat Scholarship, awards University scholarships for students pursuing an undergraduate degree in law with a strong interest in children’s rights, justice, and child protection, and a view to working for and upholding justice in the courtrooms and the entire legal department in Cameroon, especially but not limited to cases where children are victims.
“We’re committed to training the next generation of legal professionals who will ensure justice in a corrupt legal system and understands the necessity for the universally acceptable norm of ‘child’s best interest’ in handling matters that concern children.”
NURSING: Every child has the right to good (or basic) health care. But millions of children from underprivileged backgrounds lack even the most basic health attention. One of our main causes at The Milat Foundation is improving children’s health and well-being. Our efforts here are carefully selected to be able to improve this situation and include supporting the training of nursing students passionate about children’s health and well-being.

Who We Are:
The Milat Foundation is a private operating foundation [non-profit charitable organisation] devoted to supporting deprived children and their families in Cameroon and across the globe to unlock their full potentials and live their best life stories. We do this through our bold, strategic, sustainable, and innovative local empowerment projects & advocacy. We design, prioritise and execute our own projects.
Program funding comes from private family funds and is decided at the beginning of each year. This means that the foundation does not rely on public support to finance its projects, but may accept contributions from individuals as well as other organisations with a shared mission and vision to extend its reach.
