Foreword from the founder & Managing Director

Bertin Milat
Founder & Managing Director – The Milat Foundation

The Milat Foundation is the realization of Bertin Milat’s long-term commitment to philanthropy. It has been founded after years of direct and indirect involvement in charity and nation-building, but reignited by an unsuccessful fight to give his first son the highly anticipated comfortable life, love, and care planned even before his birth in Copenhagen – Denmark. Thus, the reason why the foundation invests a lot of time and resources working to give back childhood to those children who in one way or another, due to no fault of their own have had the beautiful experience of childhood and the opportunities that naturally come with it stolen from them.

There’re those children out there who have had the beautiful experience of childhood stolen from them; those children who go to bed without food, have no access to basic education, medical care, or good drinking water. There’re those single mothers out there struggling to raise and give their child/children a better future despite the downsides of living in extreme poverty. There’re those children with no fatherly support and care (for one reason or another) but most often because their father is not available or available but unable or unwilling to take up their fatherly responsibility. But there are also those innocent children out there who suffer because they are being denied access to one of their parents by the other. The latter is both morally and legally wrong – representing gross abuse of a child and/or human rights. It becomes much more troublesome in systems where there is no rule of law and the prevalence of injustice and other social ills make justice impossible. The Milat Family, who have had their beloved son fall victim to injustice in a corrupt legal system have taken upon itself to support children who have had the joy of childhood stolen from them due to both man-made and natural circumstances.

We may be comfortable at our own ends where ever in the world we find ourselves, but that is the reality of the world we live in. We live in a world full of wrongs, inequalities, socio-economic and political ills amongst others. But I believe we all have a mission on earth, to directly or indirectly change something that is not right to make it better. For us at the Milat Foundation, that mission is to help change the conditions of deprived children and their families living in abject poverty. With our organization’s mission always in mind, we strive to find new strategies for dealing with this challenge.

Here at the Milat Foundation, the wellbeing of children is at the forefront of what we’re working together towards. Our programs and activities are designed to be a catalyst that helps deprived children and their families exploit their potentials and achieve their dreams.

We’re driven by a single goal; to do our part in making the world a better place for all. Our decision-making process is informed by comprehensive empirical studies and high-quality data evaluation. We strive to build productive relationships and make a positive impact with all of our pursuits.

In one way or another, I hope you share in our mission – to correct the world. Here at the Milat Foundation, we’re always striving to make a difference, and invite you to learn more and lend your support.
